Sterling Heights October Segment 2 Driver’s Training Course

Class Meets Mon, Tues & Thurs From 3:15-5:15PM

October 2025 Seg 2 classes will run (M, T, & TH)

  • 10/6: Monday from 3:15-5:15PM
  • 10/7: Tuesday from 3:15-5:15PM
  • 10/9: Thursday from 3:15-5:15PM

Segment 2 Driver's Training Course

Take the next step in your driving journey with Great Lakes Driving Academy's Segment 2 course. This course is designed to prepare students for the risks associated with distracted driving, driving under the influence, and other risks teens may take when driving.

Eligibility

To enroll in Segment 2, students must:

  • Hold a valid Level 1 Learner’s License for at least 3 months.
  • Complete at least 30 hours of on-the-road driving with a parent, legal guardian, or, with parental permission, any licensed driver over 21. A minimum of 2 of these hours must be nighttime driving.
  • Provide a Segment 1 Certificate of Completion, their Level 1 Learner’s License, and a driving log or parent certification verifying completed driving hours.

Students may take Segment 2 with Great Lakes Driving Academy regardless of where Segment 1 was completed. Note: If under 18, Segment 2 completion is required by the State of Michigan to be eligible for the Road Test.

Course Details

The Segment 2 course includes 6 hours of classroom instruction covering:

  • Defensive driving techniques
  • High-risk behaviors behind the wheel
  • Drinking and driving awareness
  • Road rage prevention
  • Road Test preparation

Completion & Certification

Upon successfully completing the Segment 2 course and passing the Segment 2 state test, students will receive a white Segment 2 Certificate of Completion.

Road Test Eligibility

Students are eligible to take the Road Test once they have:

  • Held a Level 1 Learner’s License for at least 6 months.
  • Completed the Segment 2 course.
  • Completed at least 50 hours of on-the-road driving with a parent or guardian, including at least 10 nighttime hours.
