In order to enroll in Segment 2, the student must possess a valid Level 1 Learner’s License for a minimum of 3 months and have completed at least 30 hours of on-the-road driving with a parent or legal guardian or, with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, any licensed driver who is 21 years of age or older. A minimum of 2 of the 30 hours required must be night-time driving. Anyone my take Segment 2 with Great Lakes Driving Academy regardless of where you took Segment 1. To verify eligibility, a student will need to present the Segment 1 certificate of completion, the Level 1 driver license, and a driving log or parent certification of the student’s driving hours.
Segment 2 class consists of 6 hours of classroom instruction. The course will discuss topics relating to defensive driving, high risk behaviors, drinking and driving, road rage, and will help to prepare the student for their Road Test. Upon completion of Segment 2 and the Segment 2 state test, a white driver education Segment 2 Certificate of Completion will be issued.
* If you are under the age of 18, you are required to take Segment 2 by the State of Michigan to be eligible for a Road Test.
When am I eligible to take the Road Test?
Students are eligible to take the Road Test once they have held their Level 1 Learner’s License for 6 months or more, have completed the Segment 2 course, and have driven the required 50 hours on-the-road driving with parents (at least 10 hours must be nighttime driving).
